Have just returned from a long road trip. Forty-six hundred miles worth. Mostly off the interstate and internet. That is a lot of mountains, prairie dogs, alfalfa fields and wind generators. A lot of screen-door cafes and town squares and a couple of car wash too.

I wanted to stop at every pull off and “assess for photo” (Geek Speak = AFP). There is something quite liberating to travel some distance by car. There is not the instant gratification or velocity attain when flying, you still have to work for it. It takes more time to get there. There are in fact a few more photos I wished I had stopped to catch. Like the older gentleman at Memorial Gardens Headstones, who knew my long departed uncle fifty years ago and spoke of him as though my uncle had just driven up in his White El Camino and dust covered boots. Or the perfect reflection on a pond of an approaching Hill Country storm. The morning light on the wild flowers. Awesome.

The photographs I missed haunt me. I can still see them. (“I See Missing Photos !!”) The ones I captured I am only now starting to catalog and that will take a while to do. In the meantime, Spring has finally come to Sugar Creek and am taking every opportunity to look around and AFP !
