Deep in the winter here in the Miami Valley makes even the hardiest soul lose focus and wax and yearn for warmer climes. This is the first day in four I have not shoveled snow. I refuse to buy into a motorized blower. Do not have that much area to shovel anyway. But damn, when there is so much of it, it feels like we are living in Fargo, another seven hundred miles further north from here. Besides, I just do not have patience for those infernal machines.
In the meantime, I am here in my studio office using a pen rather than a lens. Sometimes, particularly this winter, that is all you can do. The roads are under snow emergency. There are not enough layers I can put on to step outside and fill a frame. Sorry. Have caught the Winter Blues badly. I wonder to myself, “What did people do in winter before the Internet?” Don’t answer that because, I know that comment brought house down. But it is true. If you are not traveling to warmer climes during these months and you are being held hostage by each and every low pressure that blows by, leaving another seven inches of snow, one cannot help but reach of the keyboard and mouse to escape.
So I have been reviewing oft delayed projects, hunkering down to convert equipment and specific location / situation camera settings into checklists to help my forgetful mind when the client is patting their foot exclaiming, “I only have five minutes for this, you done? ” Mercy….!
