Day 1 of the Joe McNally Workshop in Santa Fe actually started the night before with ten inches of new snow on the ground.  An impressive amount of snow, in such a short time, even from my Ohio perspective.  But all the attendees assembled early today, at the appointed hour and the total immersion into the topic of light began.

All day we worked through the logic and use of lighting for photography, from one light to two, three lights to six.  And in each progressive layer, use of gels, use of modifiers were introduced, discussed and demonstrated.

McNally’s ability to wrap his subjects with light that not only defined the person, but also the mood was inspirational.  Check out  the Day One activities on Joe McNally’s blog here.  A storm of information as impressive as the one the night before.
