One of the worst prison riots ever to occur in the US was at the New Mexico Penitentiary outside of Santa Fe. Ok, kind of creepy. No, it was damn creepy, but also a interesting place to photograph. Interesting because of the textures, the way the light and shadows play off the perspectives of bare bars and pipes. Several movies have been filmed here since the prison closed, including “The Longest Yard”. None the less, if the cold concrete walls could talk, no scream, the stories would not be for the faint of heart. Bottomline, it was a photographer’s dream location. We had four hours to shoot within; looking for the best way to portray the light and the subjects we shot. Honestly, I kept my light on all night once I got back into my room. I don’t care what you think.
